Thanks so much — I wasn’t able to access your note though I received the emails. The italics are what the writer, Sam, hears (thinks) in his head. I imagined him thinking the words of his novel as he typed them. Maybe I can come up with a short introductory sentence to make that clearer. I’ll puzzle on it. But I’m so pleased you liked the story :)
